Scope Defined for the Project

The ABC company is a courier service, experiencing issues in tracking products shipped for delivery. Usually, the products are priceless goods and customers want to stay informed regarding the product delivery status due to the sensitive nature of the products. To address the rising concerns of customers the management has decided to implement an RFID tracking system to effectively track every individual product and upload its data in real-time to customers via the website.

An RFID tracking system will be automated with intelligent computer systems hence when a courier item leaves the organization’s boundaries, computer systems automatically start uploading its location data for users to track their products in real-time. The feature is very high in demand and a recent survey conducted by ABC company’s marketing department shows it will be the top reason why will the customer be willing to pay a premium price. In this regard, the product has been allocated budget, and the start date is decided for product initiation is 1st April 2017 where the project will be live by the end of the year December.

Intended Outcome. The implementation of the new “RFID product tracking system” with intelligent computing is designed to improve customer satisfaction to 99.99%. Implementation of the project will also result in a 25% increase in customer base/market share. It will reduce the failure rate to a negligible level while improving the success factor to 100%. 

Purpose of the project

In the courier business of priceless goods, failure means the end of business which is never an acceptable outcome in any case. The purpose of implementing an “RFID product tracking system” is to achieve an optimum level of customer satisfaction i.e. .01 % complaints within a total of products delivered in a month. The project will improve the company’s progress as management will also be able to track the progress to measure performance. More transparency will highlight process shortcomings to be continuously improved. The courier product will be tracked as soon as it exists organization’s boundaries. A timeline will be maintained in real-time for customers to track their products. The project involves the following key deliverables

  • RFID tags on courier packages.
  • Fully automated database management system synced with the online website to display real-time data.
  • RFID tags and tracking system procurement and setup

Constraints Recognised

  1. The project is time constrain as it cannot be a delay after December 31, 2017
  2. RFID has to be integrated with online server and offline database this will require advance and stable technology
  3. Project is also a cost constraint since the company has already invested a lot in other services.

  • Improve and achieve 99.99% of customer satisfaction via online real time tracking information sharing.
  • Improving courier package successful delivery to 100% success rate.
  • Provide ABC company with the ability to monitor and track each delivery.
  • To provide a working RFID tracking system with online integration by December 31 2017

The data involved in the project is kept safe since it contains useful information and product information that they want to be delivered and in most cases, the items are priceless hence the organization cannot take the risk to allow information into the wrong hands. Any information shared has to be done in a secure fashion with all protocol requirements met.

Project Roles and Responsibilities

Project Manager: He will lead the entire project and make it possible to become successful. He makes entire project team to follow his plans and meet the ultimate project objectives.

Procurement Manager. The procurement manager will have a critical responsibility of procuring all required equipment. He will conduct each procurement with standard criteria established while full filling all requirements. He will formulate a contract and will award the contract after the discussion with the project manager.

Project Analyst. He is the technical Guru in RFID tracking projects and will manage and consult alongside project manager.
