Research Methodology: Financial Crisis and Role of Banking Sector

Research Methodology

Research Methodology refers towards a process that includes investigation, data gathering, and its interpretation in a meaningful and understandable way. Research methodology is the most essential step of the study that provides the opportunity to the researcher from which they can find answers for their research questions and objectives of the study. In addition, appropriate and efficient research methodologies help researcher to provide more authentic and valid research. The researchers can adapt various methods in order to support the aims and objectives of the study (Gill and Johnson, 2002).

Research design

Research design for the present study will be proposed to be descriptive rather than confirmatory research design. For achieving the descriptive research design, sequential research approach will be used in the present study (Creswel and Plano Clark, 2007). Furthermore, usually, for achieving the descriptive form of aims in the study, researchers employ quantitative form of research method because it helps study in providing extensive amount of data and interpretation of the results. Descriptive method of the study will be done in two stages. In phase one data will be gathered through quantitative method and in phase two data will be analysed in order to get validity and reliability confirmation of the data.

Research Method

Present study will adapt quantitative research method in order to find the answers for the research question. Quantitative research method is an efficient and most widely used method of research. In addition, it is a source of primary data collection that enable researcher to get a large amount of data from massive number of population. Selection of the appropriate research method is extremely essential step while conducting the research because study entirely depends on reliability and validity of the collected data (Saunders, Thornhill and Lewis, 2009).

Data Collection

Data collection is the process through which data will be gathered for the study. In present research source of data collection will be quantitative method i.e. primary source. It will help the researcher to find and gather request form of data that will be analysed easily. In addition, close-ended questionnaires will be used in order to collect the data from the targeted population in very precise manner. There are two types of data collection methods that includes primary data collection method and secondary data collection method. Moreover, both of these methods have been used in the present research(Christensen, Johnson and Turner, 2011). Primary method of data collection includes data collection through observation, surveys, interviews or focus group interviews etc. (Cohen et al., 2010).  Furthermore, for gathering the data through primary source a tool has been used i.e. questionnaire tool. Primary research refers towards such research in which data is gathered by the researcher on his own and for the first time. It includes first hand data whereas secondary data includes data that has already been collected by someone else (Wiersma, 2000). Sources of secondary data i.e. Internet, literatures, books, reports and articles of different authors have been incorporated in the present study.

Sample

The sample size for the present study will be 80 employees from the banking sector. Furthermore, random sampling technique will be used in the study and the respondents will be contacted via post or either via email depending on the availability and ease of the respondent.

Data Analysis

Using frequency and mean response for each question in the questionnaire will perform the data analysis in present study. This analysis method will allow the researcher to present the mean response of the population. In addition, it will make the analysis more understandable. Standard deviation will be calculated to help and strengthen the data analysis.  Data analysis is the process of identification of the patterns that will be collected during data collection processes (Christensen, Johnson and Turner, 2011). In present study data analysis will be done through using suitable statistical tools i.e. descriptive tool such as mean, frequency and mode etc. Furthermore, during analyzing the data of random questionnaires will be checked in order to check the accuracy of the data.
